Understanding The Time
And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. Romans 13:11
Of the sons of Issachar, men who understood the times, with knowledge of what Israel should do, their chiefs were two hundred; and all their kinsmen were at their command. 1 Chronicles 12:1-8; 14, 15; 21, 22, 32
When we understand His plan we will better understand our times and are less likely to be moved by the passing season.
Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell and great was its fall. (Matthew 7:24-27)
Understanding the times comes from understanding Him and understanding Him comes from a life immersed both in His Spirit and His word. With this foundation we will not be moved.
Understanding the Times and What We Should Do
The times belong to us, we do not belong to the times. The last post Taking Hold of the Times described how we should not be afraid of the times but embrace them and take hold of them, for this is the hour we have been given to impact. We have now established God’s plan, understand the we have a role in it, and we are not to be moved. This is all a landing pad for us to specifically discern our times and the moment and what we should do in it.
Embrace the Times
We need not to be afraid of the times, we should embrace them. This is the hour in which the Lord has given us to live. This is the hour the Lord has given us to reign. He has given us all the power and authority to take hold of, and possess the times. These times are ours. They were made for us to inhabit. We control the speed at which the clock turns. Therefore let us embrace our charter and press on even more
We are in God’s plan to affect our generation.
We are called to affect, further, and fulfill that plan. When we understand His plan and the purpose behind it all we will not be moved by the roadblocks of life that try to discourage us. We have our vision higher and know that there is a greater purpose
The course of the world will be overcome by the course of God when God’s people stay on course.
Then Joshua spoke to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, ‘O sun, stand still at Gibeon, and O moon in the valley of Aijalon.’ So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, until the nation avenged themselves of their enemies. Is it not written in the book of Jashar? And the sun stopped in the middle of the sky and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day. There was no day like that before it or after it, when the LORD listened to the voice of a man; for the LORD fought for Israel. (Joshua 10:12-14)
Joshua even stopped the sun for God’s plan (v8) to prevail. The sun would set, but Joshua was not afraid. He burst forth into action and the sun stopped in the middle of the day. He literally changed the direction of the times in which he was living. This is one of and if not the most powerful supernatural event that happens in nature. The red sea and the flood were right up there, too. He actually stopped not only the rotation of the earth but that of the solar system as well, it seems, for God to fulfill the times in that hour.
When He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and wept over it, saying, ‘If you had known in this day, even you, the things which make for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes. For the days will come upon you when your enemies will throw up a barricade against you, and surround you and hem you in on every side, and they will level you to the ground and your children within you, and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.’ (Luke 19:41-44)
They were the ones privileged enough to be alive on the earth at this critical moment in eternal history. They were alive when God visited the earth, and they missed it! We, in turn, are the one to be alive on the earth when God inhabits His people; Let us not miss it!
Times and Seasons
The Pharisees and Sadducees came up, and testing Jesus, they asked Him to show them a sign from heaven. But He replied to them, ‘When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’ And in the morning, ‘There will be a storm today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Do you know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but cannot discern the signs of the times? An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and a sign will not be given it, except the sign of Jonah.’ And He left them and went away. (Matthew 16:1-4)
